Enjoying sea and nature on the island of Cozumel

We definitely fell in love with the Riviera Maya. So much that we decided to extend our staying a bit more. To change settings just a bit, we moved to an island: Cozumel.

To get to the island, we first took a bus from Tulum to Playa del Carmen. From there, we took the ferry to Cozumel. During the whole ride you can enjoy a beautiful view of the spectacular Caribbean sea and all its colors. The water takes all the shades of blue and green, already from the harbor!

When thinking about the Caribbean sea, the first things that come to our mind are crystal clear waters, sun, and pirates raiding the coastal towns. This last part has of course changed, but you can still immerse yourself in that period by visiting Cartagena de Indias in Colombia.

Titicaca: one lake, two countries, three islands

It is said that the first Inca, Manco Capac, was created by Inti, the god of the sun and emerged from the depths of lake Titicaca. He created the Inca civilization, establishing it in Cuzco.

With such a story, no doubt we wanted to visit this famous lake and some of its more than 30 islands. At 3800 m, lake Titicaca is the highest navigable lake in the world and it is situated at the border between two countries: Peru and Bolivia.

The Galapagos archipelago has always been synonym with wildlife. Made famous worldwide by Darwin’s studies that lead to the theory of evolution, they became the first Ecuadorian national park in 1959. Since then, the restrictions to ensure preservation of the native flora and fauna kept accumulating. These restrictions came hand in hand with a steady and significant raise in the cost of the stay on the island. But don’t worry, you can still enjoy the amazing animals of the Galapagos while being on a budget.

You can get there only by flying from Santiago de Chile or from Polynesia, and the tickets are quite expensive. The cost of life on the island is also quite high since most of the products have to be brought by plane or by boat. For these reasons, planning a trip to Easter Island from Europe can be quite expensive.
